NTP - questions.

I'm now looking at the NTP White paper on the protocol,  just getting a feel for how it all works.   

Is it possible to test the Messusd Server using telnet?    If you happen to knoe the NTP?    It would seem to me to be no problem,  but the protocol explicitly states no "\n" character.   

Anyway,  I have yet to read the full white paper,  but this question came to mind,  so I am asking it now.
