My guess is that the Debian binary and the source do not exactly match. 
     I had a similar problem with Slackware when they used a patched 
version of Samba which did not exactly match the available source.  The 
most reliable method for getting samba-vscan to work is to compile samba 
from  the same source tree you are using to compile the vscan module.
