Aidan, Revisiting this for the benefit of anyone trying to do Terminal Services connections from XP now that SP2 has invalidated the 127.0.0.2 approach . . . > If you're on XP and are hitting the "XP terminal services client refuses > to connect to localhost" problem, the answer is (and thanks to all the > people whose work pointed me in the right direction): > > Copy the files "mstsc.exe" and "mstscax.dll" from a Windows 2000 Server > (WINNT\system32) to your XP box in a temp folder > > Set the compatibility mode for "mstsc.exe" (Properties | Compatibility) > to either Windows 95 or Windows 98/ME (NT4 or 2000 does not work) > > Start Zebedee listening locally on some port other than 3389 > zebedee 10000:remotehost:3389 > > From the command line and the folder into which you've copied mstsc from > your 2000 box > mstsc /v:127.0.0.1:10000 As in your solution, the Win2K client is the answer, it seems there is no way to get the inbuilt XP RDP client to do it. However, yours seems more complicated than my testing shows is necessary. I took two files from a 2K client installation - MSTSC.EXE and RDPDR.DLL, put them in a directory on my XP machine, ran it and asked for a connection to localhost. Perfect. No need for different ports, nor was there any need to set compatibility mode (probably because I used files from an installed client?) -- my zebedee startup specifies the expected 3389:remotehost:3389. I guess if you have the remote desktop assistance service running on the XP box you might need the different port.
