Yeah, absolutely, no problem. As I said, you might have a problem 
connecting to local loopback addresses (127.0.0.x) -- it's easier to 
install the loopback adapter, bind a "real" ip to it, and connect. 
There the trick is to disable File and Printer sharing on that 
adapter -- also, you may have to turn off Netbios over TCP/IP in the 
WINS tab on the advanced properties.

If you try using 127.0.0.x you will nowadays bump into all sorts of 
funky behaviour -- you'll have to install a non-standard MS patch to 
restore functionality, namely

and also might have to disable SMB listening on port 445 with a 
suspicious registry hack. Much better to use a loopback adapter in my 
opinion.
