Apologies for the tacky cross-posting, but I wanted to let y'all know of an update to Kaboodle, brought to you by the same bunch bringing you the GoToMyVNC.com services. Hope it proves helpful! -Scott ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Sat, 29 Nov 2003 06:02:57 +0000 (GMT) From: Scott C. Best <[email protected]> To: kaboodle-user-TtF/[email protected] Subject: Kaboodle 0.99b released! Heya Kaboodle users. This email is an announcement of the version 0.99b release of Kaboodle. You can find it here: http://www.kaboodle.org This new version has the following enhancements: * The VPN engine now exclusively uses Zebedee for both secure transport and authentication. The GetEngaged website has been redone to create the required key and id files accordingly (ie, http://www.GetEngaged.net ). * The VPN feature now uses only one TCP port (user configurable) rather than two. It also no longer uses Gnuetlla for partner auto-discovery -- that feature will be brought back in 1.0 once KaboodleProxy is fully operational. In the meantime, you'll need to manually provide the IP or FQDN address of your target VPN partner. * The remote-control interface has been simplified. An obvious "Connect" button will automatically activate a remote-control connection using remote-desktop, VNC, or HTTP web-config, depending on what the target device supports. It will also attempt a network-install and auto-activation of VNC if the OS's on both ends support it. * If Kaboodle gets confused, you can now force it to cleanly re-create it's network database. Just hold down the SHIFT key while Kaboodle is starting up. * Kaboodle now comes with a folder containing some "helper" applications that it frequently uses, including Zebedee and VNC. * Lotsa bug fixes (thanks to everyone's emails about the hiccups they've found!). As always, Kaboodle is free and open-source. You can obtain the source-code on Echogent's FTP server at "ftp.echogent.com". Comments or questions welcome.
