Service Provider Implementation Guidelines

I have not been able to find very much on the subject of the specifics 
of implementing a Service Provider.  Is this because there are only 
guidelines and many different implementations?

I am specifically trying to figure out how I protect resources, or have 
my SP provide services and redirecting to the IDP if necessary.  I do 
not see that SourceID specifically protects specified URLs or 
resources.  Can someone please carify this for me?
