I think by locally attached they mean are you connected to the network via VPN remotely (vs. being on-site where the iSeries is hosted). I've seen it take 6 hours on installs to remote clients in China or India for example. 1 Hours is unusually. Usually for VPN connections it's about 20 minutes on average from my experience. Locally it should take 1 or 2 minutes. The process is part of the R78 Install/upgrade procedure announced and made available in June. The green screen server installation and upgrade to PCM 09955 went pretty well. I have not tried the data migration yet. I am struggling with the Client Install. The last time I ran the Client install, it ran for over 8 hours before it failed. I am being told by Infor the install will "run for a long time unless I have a locally attached PC." I'm not sure what is meant by "locally attached PC". I am installing to an iSeries Model 570. The main reason I have been given for the installation length of time is due to the large amount of data being transferred and installed on the IFS. I am also being told bandwidth and network latency are also contributing to the length of time required. From my previous experiences and tracking the installation, I can see what has been installed. Unfortunately, I can't see the finish line. It sounds like the good-old "This may take some time" message. Because of the change in the installation process, the install must be done from a PC. You cannot insert an install CD/DVD into the iSeries and install from there. Has anyone experienced the same lengths-of-time associated to the installation? Are there any suggestions I can try to help with the process?
