	Thanks for the information on converting the warehouse however I need to go a step further. In shipping is there a way to get it to use the default "1000" location for all items versus having to use option 47 for locations on the screen

There are two very easy ways to create a controlled warehouse from an uncontrolled warehouse.

First, remember that when you "flip" the flag on the warehouse, all transactions that issue, receive or adjust inventory will expect a location and quantity.  therefore, the first step after "flipping the 'controled warehouse' flag" is to create 1 location.   For this example, lets call it location "1000" (IM/File Maintenance/Location Control/Location Detail/Individual Locations")  Be sure to check that the location will accept multiple items ( Yes) and muliple lots (Yes).

So the first method would then be to create a location record for every item you have in the warehouse.  This can be done via IM/File Maintenace/Location Control/Location Detail.  Then create a record for each item at location "1000" for the quantity that shows in the Item Balance file.  (Note you cannot enter negative quantities so it is a great idea to ensure your physical inventory is accurate before you start.)

One more step.  Go into Item Warehouse (Item Balance if you are down level) and at the Item Balance record change the "Default Location" to equal "1000".  By doing this you will ensure that if the users forget to put a location on the transaction, the system will default o the "1000" location.

Once this is done you will now be able to perform all of your transactions as before.  Just remember, the system now requres a location field and sometimes a location quantity if there are more than one location where the part is stored.

A short cut to the above, is that IT could create your location records for you.  I don't recommend this as it won't catch errors in your existing counts.

A second method is to create a new warehouse, with locations (or just 1 as above in method 1).  then perform a TW transaction to move inventory from your existing uncontrolled warehouse to your new controlled warehouse.  This method, when coupled with a physical will also force an accurate inventory.  AND the physical can be done on a part by part basis so you don't have to run IM physical inventory!
