a seriously naughty thought...

Gentle Arusha dudes -- in the current torpor of casual
musing about all possible ways forward for the Arusha
Project Way of Life (TM), one seriously naughty possibility
cross my mind: do everything in straight Python. Lose the
XML, lose the little template language, lose any semantics
of our own, and just have *everything* be done in Python.
What kind of "object" is an ARK object? -- Python; what are
the semantics? -- Python; what is the syntax? -- Python. Etc.

Should you really want to write a shell script, there's
always: os.system('foo | bar 2>&1')

(Background: I've been noodling with Quixote, a web
application framework where everything is as Pythonic as
possible; and with SCons, a 'make' replacement where the
"makefiles" are actually straight Python -- the only thing
you don't see is a couple of magic libraries brought into
scope for you. Kinda neat.)

As things currently stand (we're back in ARK land now...), I
don't get the impression anyone's ever believed our story of
"write in the language you feel comfortable with, and put
XML wrapping around it".

Anybody got any thoughts re a pure Python ARK world?

Will

PS: The current ARK stuff is alive and happening, which
you'll know if you read [email protected]. If anyone
is feeling an information deficit about what's going on,
please speak up.
