Python's deploy directory missing

One of the last basic packages to build is Python (which depends on
openssl, which depends on Perl, ...).  All of the prerequisites were
complete, so I expected this build to be easy.  Wrong.

I typed

% ark package reveal --verbose --use-deps=max python--2.2.1 < /dev/null

and watched ark happily untar, link, configure, compile, and link more
files.  When prompted I typed my password for sudo.  Ark created many
more symbolic links and then stopped with this complaint:

OSError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory:
'/usr/local/.-ark-deploy/python--2.2.1'

True: /usr/local/.-ark-deploy/python--2.2.1 did not exist.  Why not?  I
looked back through my log and found this anomaly in the <mkdir-deploy>
results:

ml

When I looked, mkdir-deploy--sparc-solaris8.xml was missing from the
/sys/ark-state/package/python--2.2.1 directory.

What about the other deploy directory, /our/.-ark-deploy/python--2.2.1?
It was created during the <install-bits> method.

Something seems odd here.  I'll think about it overnight.  Meanwhile,
for the curious, here is the interesting part of my log:
