Mac OS X 10.4 now provides support in the BSD layer for the xattr functions on HFS+ and HFS via the ._file convention [1]. Current limits seem to be key 128 bytes, value 4 KiB. Exciting! It should be trivial to implement this in libdar, but care might be taken to either mask ._file on HFS or exclude support for EAs and just copy the ._file (probably the former is better). There may also be small differences in namespace definitions. As for ACLs, apparently, they are masked out by the xattr API [2]. This could be a problem, but there may be a way around this.
