There is today nothing planned about this need. There is just a pending
feature request that seemed to be best to implement as an external tool
that would rely on dar + dar_slave + dar_xform to make remote
differential backup. This what you can already do with theses tools over
ssh or netcat (see http://dar.linux.free.fr/doc/Notes.html#II ). The
main added value of this expected additional external tool is to listen
to a given TCP port, manage authentication of incoming connections and
store backups in a given disk area.

What I understand of your need is different than this pending feature
request.

As explain in the previously given reference, you already can do it with
dar and ssh or dar and netcat for example. I also know some user that do
it using rsync (as you do), thus, rsync may also be a complementary tool
for dar. One or the other is just a user choice.

Last, you can also isolate the catalogue of your last differential or
full (see -C option) which makes only a small file to transfert to your
notebook and use it as reference for the next differential backup.
