I see two features that can be used for that without much change to Baras:
using --no-dump option
or using --cache-directory-tagging option

For both, the selection of file to exclude is defined from the
filesystem itself, thus modifying Baras you would just require you to
add an option when calling dar.

Have you also checked SaraB?

Well, if you decide to add a new tool around dar, let me know for I add
a pointer to it from the dar documentation.
