no, I don't see any mis-use. But I don't see any interest for going
through tar format, if the user wants to restore a directory, why would
not he get a directory rather a tar archive ?

You need to make an application that can converts a dar format to a tar
format. I don't see anything that could be added to dar for doing that,
it must be a separated application to my point of view.
