configure options:
./configure --enable-largefile

I guess I don't have largefile support in the kernel, since dar -V gives
 Using libdar 1.0 built with compilation time options:
   Extended Attributes support: NO
   Large files support (> 2GB): NO
   ext2fs NODUMP flag support : YES
   Special allocation scheme  : YES
   Integer size used          : unlimited


time dar -l /cdrom/igloo-root-030606.1.dar > /dev/null

real    11m57.515s
user    10m2.300s
sys     0m33.000s

Right, there are some major optimizations to be done on my GUI code, 
because it takes much longer than 12 minutes to list the archive! :)

And with the enable-mode=64 configure option,
time dar -l /cdrom/igloo-root-030606.1.dar > /dev/null

real    2m59.620s
user    1m56.190s
sys     0m27.080s

I like the idea of an open/close set of calls to libdar.
