Yeah, it makes sense to me that it's an issue with the toolchain... I have some experience doing this on Linux, but I am far from an expert on Solaris and am only building it this way so dar can run directly on the OmniOS storage device. And I think the pkgconfig suggestion is likely part of it as well - I went back and installed/reinstalled a lot of the developer/* tools, much as Denis did, in the course of switching compiler versions, and pkgconfig may have been pulled in too. I hadn't realized anything was missing since the compile for dar 2.5.22 finished OK, and like Mihai said, I had tried to disable everything that I knew wouldn't work on Solaris. I'll probably try again with gcc 9 once I get the system updated to the latest OmniOS, but with the released source package next time. Thanks everyone for your attention.
