2.6.2... is not much recent (the latest on the 2.6.x is 2.6.14), but

For Debian an better option would be to report the problem to the person
 in charge of building dar/libdar for this distro (the distro maintainer
for dar/libdar) for he/she adds librsync an other missing (but optional)
dependencies to the Debian packaging process of dar/libdar.
