HDUP question

Happy holidays!

I've been using HDUP for a couple weeks now and it seems to be ideal
in nearly every way for my purposes. I am doing remote backups with
SSH to a separate box inside my network.

Couple questions....

1) When performing remote backups I am a bit unclear on which options
are used to control the backup. If I have [global] options on both the
host I am backing up, and the backup destination, and also [hostname]
options on both, where should I put global things like chunk size? I
think I understand that [hostname] on the remote should only contain
"allow remote=yes". Should all other options that control how the
backup is created be on the host being backed up, or on the remote
destination?

2) I had this set up on a different machine and had to rebuild the box
because I added a hard drive that the (old) machine couldn't support.
Before, it seemed to work as expected. Now, for some reason, it is no
longer automatically creating the MONTHLY and WEEKLY backups if they
don't already exist when starting a DAILY backup. The only difference
(I think) is that the remote machine is now running HDUP 1.6.23,
whereas the server initiating the backup is running 1.6.22. Both were
running 1.6.22 before. Is there possibly anything a bug here, or did I
mess something up? I have "always backup = on" set in both host and
remote server configurations.

Also, it seems to be performing full backups every day. I wonder if
this is related to there not being any monthly and daily backups. I
have tar 1.13.25 (unpatched) but have NO "include =" statements in my
conf files, so I don't think that's the problem.
