Hello, After an email discussion with Joerg Schilling (from star fame) I started to look into star. Check for instance the -F options in there..: With four -F arguments, star ignores all sub trees starting from a directory that includes a file .mirror or .exclude the latter files are excluded too as well as and all object files and files called core errs a.out all files ending with .o. and pattern=pat Set matching pattern to pattern. which can also be reversed. All in all, I looked about 5 minutes to star and that lead me to the conclusion that star is going to be the new way to go for hdup. This will mean a code reduction of about 30%, which is there to program around tar errors. As 1.6.37 is just released I will use that as a starting point for hdup2. I'm planning a few extra things: o move to Glib for lowlevel C stuff o open up svn for public svn access For the rest I hope most of the stuff can be kept the same (ie. the config file and other stuff) grtz, --Miek -- today's fortune: Some of them want to use you, Some of them want to be used by you, ...Everybody's looking for something. -- Eurythmics
