Version of tar

There was a post not too long ago about mentioning the
version of tar we use.

I'm using Debian Sarge (testing) and the version of
tar is currently 1.13.93

Frankly, star seems to be a better tar than gnu tar.
The only drawback is the behavior compatibility with
gnu tar which seems to have a big marketshare.  

However, many think star behavior is 'more correct'
because star is Posix compliant.  star also supports
Access Control Lists (ACL) and is faster than gnu tar
due to advanced buffering.

Kinda ironic how this sounds like the Linux vs
Microsoft we've heard so often (standards-compliant +
technical superiority vs marketshare)--except it is
being applied to a GNU utility this time.  :)

If hdup 2.x will work fine with gnu tar 1.13.93, then
I don't mind using tar.  Just mentioning star here
because it was mentioned as a possible replacement for
gnu tar--and support for ACL and very long filenames
are kinda good to have in a backup program.
