Any idea when #1 will be fixed or when a workaround will be available?

I think hdup2 is the most easy-to-use backup/restore system but I cannot
use it because of #1. And I think it could be several years (if ever)
before tar is updated to fix their part of this issue.

I guess the most powerful combo would be hdup2 to provide support for
DAR 2.2.1 instead of relying on tar solutions like gnu tar or star. But
I understand the desire to stick with programs that are included by
default with all Linux distros.

Regardless of how #1 is eventually fixed, I eagerly await a solution so
I can use hdup2 instead of other, less-elegant, solutions.
