That sounds like a very practical workaround we can use.

I wonder quickly a shell script (or perl/python/ruby script) can be 
written to do this based on the hdup config file...

Maybe it can be even be packaged with hdup2 as a utility until a more 
permanent solution is implemented.

What do you think?
