Incremental Backup Question

Hi Miek, hope you are well.
 
I am using hdup 1.6.16 - and am carrying out incremental backups. I have
a problem in that the size of the incremental archive is v,large, - it
is not much smaller than monthly backup. I have checked the archive and
it contains files that have not been updated for months. Checking the
inode ctime - indicates a change at the beginning of a week but not
daily - but the archive size remains same...the affected files are part
of a samba share too. Could you let me know how hdup does its
incremental decision - and whether it could be changing inode time? I
don't really know what is chaning the ctime...
