Anthony,

So, when installing ITCAM AD, you have to install the WAS TEMA and the Data
Collector, right? Then you have to configure the DC so that it instruments
that particular JVM. In addition, you need to install the
Managing/Management Server. If you perfume this type of deployment and then
install and instrument CA APM (Wily) on that same JVM, I know from
experience, it will cause lots of errors and maynot even start up the JVM
properly. The JVM is 1.6.

I am a bit amazed that you had performed this task successfully.

1. I am pretty sure that it's not a support by IBM b/c the Support will ask
you to remove CA APM first before they begin to help you :)

2. That makes sense if you don't use the DC config tool, b/c then of course
it's possible to co-exist (I've never tried that approach). But I will ask,
if you do it manually, will IBM support it? And I would still be surprised
if you can provide the generic JVM args for both ITCAM AD and CA APM on the
same JVM that it wouldn't cause issue. But will definitely cause an overhead
on resource utilization.

Thank you,

V/r,

Jason,

This information is for WebSphere:

1. Is this a supported configuration by IBM? I've always understood it
isn't.

A. I don't know the answer to this, this would have to be a question for
IBM support. This was for a POC and not a production release.

2. Can you share how you achieved it?

A. There was nothing special required other than at least Java 1.5 (Java
1.4.2 did not work). We did make the changes to the JVM manually and not
using the DC configuration tool. This was not a limitation of the product,
it was a requirement from the WAS team they only they make changes to the
JVM arguments.

Hi Anthony,

Interesting, and 2 things spring to mind

1. Is this a supported configuration by IBM? I've always understood it
isn't.

2. Can you share how you achieved it?

I don't have an immediate requirement to do this but I have a customer who
may be moving from Wily to ITCAMAD and this may be a way to expedite the
migration

Thanks

All,

I have personally done ITCAM AD and Wily in the same JVM on WebSphere. This
was done in the fall of 2011.

The only catch if I remember correctly was the JVM for WAS needed to be at
least version 1.5. There was issues with Java 1.4.x.

NOTE: Please make sure and backup the JVM settings before the ITCAM AD
deploy, assuming Wily is there first.

If you want to talk about Wily and ITCAM in NetWeaver, I believe there is a
new "fix" from IBM that supports this. The reason IBM had to "support" this
was because of the SAP (PI) requiring Wily in the JVM for earlywatch
monitoring.

Jason,

You are absolutely correct. From a comparison perspective you could install
those products on each separate JVMs like you mentioned (4 JVM with each
suited with a diff product).

But I don't think it's possible to instrument a single JVM with ITCAM for AD
and CA APM.

Hi Manish

I haven't heard this. If true I would be very interested to understand how
as well as I dont believe it is possible!

Ive been in situations where Wily, HP Diags and ITCAM DCs are available and
the customer want to deploy them in comparison - so in a WAS cell with 4
JVMs you could put one on each JVM and see how they perform, but never
co-existing on the same JVM

Also why would you want to as the overheads would be huge.

I was told that the newer version of ITCAM for AD 7.0 can co-exist with CA
APM (formerly Wily).

Is that true? If so, how?
