Folks,

On behalf of all of the individuals and organizations who have contributed
to HylaFAX since we released version 4.1.6, it gives me great pleasure to
announce the availability of the first beta-test version of HylaFAX-4.2.0.
You may download it from the following URL:

       ftp://ftp.hylafax.org/source/BETA/hylafax-4.2.0beta1.tar.gz

The list of changes is huge - this represents nearly a year of development.
I will include the relevant section from the CHANGES file at the bottom of
this message, for those who want the detailz. ;-)

This is the first time we've ever announced a beta release on the -users
mailing list, so I think a little explanation might be in order. First of
all, it's a beta release, which means you should really think twice before
using this for anything upon which your livelihood (or your sanity) depends.
Having said that, people ARE using this code in production with great
success, and we do recommend that as many people as possible try this new
release out. We NEED you to test it.

Please, kick the tires, hammer on it, and try to break it. Features we would
like to see receive particular attention would be Class 1/1.0 ECM, v.34-Fax
and extended resolutions. If you find you CAN break it (or it breaks you)
then we want to hear about it, but we don't want to hear about it here on
the -users mailing list. There's two main forums for bug reports:

    a) The HylaFAX bugzilla (http://bugs.hylafax.org/bugzilla)
    b) The [email protected] mailing list.

If you're confident you have a bug, please take a moment to register for a
bugzilla account and file a bug report. Everything else pertaining to the
beta should be posted to [email protected].

The goal in posting here is to encourage active testing of hylafax-4.2.0 to
help make sure the final release is solid, but also to encourage as much
fresh blood as possible to join us in our never-ending quest to build
better, more capable software.

-Darren
