Thanks for the very detailed explanation Lee.  It's way over my head,
but hopefully Konstantin will be able to progress this in some way.

I did come across a report for dragonflybsd which seems linked to this
(http://bugs.dragonflybsd.org/issues/2028) where they did a commit to
their kernel which fixed it for them.  Like I say though I know nothing
about this sort of thing so don't know if they are working around
something in Hylafax or it's an actual bug in the kernel.
