I can receive but I cannot send any faxes (Failure to train remote modem at 2400 bps or minimum speed )

I am running hylafax+ 5.5.6 on Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS. I connect via iaxmodem (1.2.0) to an asterisk server on a _different_ host (the firewalls logs show no packets dropped between the two servers). I receivce every fax that is sent to the hyafax server, but I can not send one page, I always get the message: "Failure to train remote modem at 2400 bps or minimum speed" Regarding to other posts this shoulld be an "audio issue", but in that cases there was a problem with receiving _and_ sending.
