"Failure to train" *ALWAYS* refers to a problem with audio quality.

Receiving and sending can certainly operate on different paths (and they 
often do).  So, just because one works does not mean that the other will.

So... even if you have a super-duper network that does not drop packets 
between Asterisk and IAXmodem - how does the call go out from there?
