I see requests regularly (maybe once per-month) from users wanting to
use HylaFAX+ on Debian. I assure you that their interest is not trivial.

For an example of their concerns, see:

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=499795

Ultimately, I believe that what will need to happen for these users to
be satisfied would be to have a separate "hylafax+" package in Debian
repositories. However, that will require someone with enough loyalty to
Debian to step-forward to do that.

Another "easy" solution that I've seen many use is to simply abandon
Debian. Many of the systems in question are dedicated fax servers, so
it's not a terribly difficult step to convince someone that simply
starting with a Fedora/CentOS/RedHat distribution will ultimately prove
to be easier and better-supported.

I suspect that the core issue involved with Yannik's problem has to do
with Debian's requirement that the init scripts be "LSBized". See:

https://wiki.debian.org/LSBInitScripts

I suspect what is needed is the inclusion of the "block" of shell
comments delimited by "### BEGIN INIT INFO" and "### END INIT INFO".

It's really not that difficult, but it does require time. I would say
that it requires more time than it does knowledge. That said, it should
be somewhat easy to simply replace the tarball in the package build
process and have a very few number of tweaks from there. But for the
good of all this really ought to be done in the distribution
repositories, and that's going to require someone loyal to Debian to
step-forward and take care of it.

Thanks,

Lee.
