Re: Hylafax / Avantfax outgoing fax poor quality

Not all POTS lines are the same.  Not all long-distance services are the 
same.

Does the telco or LD provider use VoIP on their end?

In any case, the symptoms you described are indicative of poor line 
audio quality mixed with a goodly amount of non-ECM fax operations.

Make sure you're running in Class 1 (and did not disable ECM).

If that is the case (as I suspect it is) then the problem is really with 
the service of your telco or LD provider.
