Repurpose fax as a printer-scanner. What do I need?

Hello.

I collected a phone-fax device and I am already using it as a copy
machinne and home phone. However I would like to upgrade it as a local
printer and scanner, and I want to ask you what could it take to do it.
As far as I understood, in order to make Hylafax communicate to it, I
would need:

fax -- [ analog/isdn adaptor ] -- [isdn/ usb adaptor ] -- pc

I've also been told that not all isdn-usb bri will work, that depends on
the manufacturer.

I have been searching the documentation and cases like sending and
receiving of faxes, and mail 2 fax and fax 2 mail seem to be covered.
But I'm not sure if my use case is implied inside any of them. So...

Could you point me to some documentation doing a similar a setup? Help
me know how it's called what I want, please.

- Samsung phone+fax device

- PC
=C2=A0 * gnu/linux (with hylafax soon!)
=C2=A0 * rj45-ethernet port
=C2=A0 * rj11-phone port

- Home "router"
=C2=A0 * optical fiber WAN
=C2=A0 * RJ-11 port for VoIP
=C2=A0 * RJ-45 for ethernet LAN and Wi-Fi AP.

What could I achieve by connecting directly the fax to the pc?
Is it feasable that the "router" could manage local phone numbers the
same way as it does with IP-LAN?
In that case, would it be possible to "call" the fax from the pc (and
print/scan?)?

I will apreciate any idea or contribution. I am eager to read and learn
more, at first I need to limit a bit the scope to know what can I expect.
