Instead of \hspace{5mm}, maybe the gap should be expressed as a product 
of \baselineskip?  Also, the subarchive and signature lines should be 
indented. Other than that, the specification looks OK to me.

The problem with such a specification is that some archives have 
different signature formats.  In my documents, for example, I use 
"sig1.sig2.sig3.sig4, sheet" where sig4 already denotes the sheets.

The signature format problem could be addressed in two ways:
- the signature delimiters could either be kept separately customizable 
(\bibssepA, \bibssepB and so on)
- or instead of storing the individual signature positions, it would be 
possible to define include one field for the whole signature, something 
like signature={sig/sig--sig, sig}. This would also allow for different 
signature formats within one document, for example if you quote from 
different archives.
