Another way to implement different signature formats would be having
four fields for the individual signature positions and another field for
a "callback" command in the bibliography database. Thus, the .bib file
entry would contain something like:

@ARCHIVE{foobar,
  sig1 = {a1}, sig2 = {b2}, sig3 = {c3}, sig4 = {d4},
  sigformatfull = {\foo} ...}

where \foo is a 4-ary user-defined command defined in the main document:

\newcommand{\foo}[4]{#1/#2--#3, #4}

If no formatting command is specified, jurabib could fall back to a dot
or comma notation.

This way, the whole formatting would be completely customizable for
different signature formats, theoretically on a per-entry basis, while
still keeping the individual signature positions separate. The
advantage is that you can still have the individual positions available
for manipulations... or grouping ;) For grouping, some of the
parameters would have to be optional.

I guess the more suggestions pour in, the more complicated it gets. ;)
