Re: historical author names

Hmmmm.  This is most strange.  The .bib file has only three entries at
present, and these all look safe to me.  The problem is fixed if I put
the whole name, or each individual part, inside an \mbox:

\mbox{Pope} \mbox{John XII}

This leads me to suspect that the problem is coming from the
abbreviation option.  But when I turn that off, I still get trouble. 
Curses!
