A tool would be good. I was hoping something like this might emerge out
of the BiblioX stuff I did a couple of years ago. Maybe I'll find time 
to get back on it.

Fortunately it's not my supervisor :-)  And unfortunately publisher 
names are still critical in bibliographies, especially when there are 
several editions of the same work, published at different times by 
different publishers. It's certainly not for buying them -- many of the 
ones in question are now rarities except in libraries.

In any case, the Prof in question wanted to _remove_ the publisher from
the short reference. I think it's really down to the fact that every
department/prof/discipline in the Humanities is convinced that their
own highly idiosyncratic way of doing references is The Right Way :-)
