I don't have much time free during the following months but I could try to
set up a Wiki at my institution http://www.ehess.fr to maybe collaborate on
some kind of documentation aimed at historians. If there is enough
interest.

I don't know of an academic book that was published twice the same year in
the same town by two different publishers.... You are overestimating our
popularity as authors ;-)

I think the solution is to say "Do you want Past and Present citation style
or Oxford Style or American Historical Journal...". If you start by asking
"Do you want author in small capitals," you are on for endless tweaking.
