Fwd: multiple citation with page number

there was a query on comp.text tex today which is of interest to us:

Or to rephrase this in terms of the LaTeX interface to Bibulus: How
should we design the \cite... command(s) so that each reference can
have additional information attached?

For instance, in addition to \citep[21][4]{bazin:1997, boyum:1985} as
suggested above, one could imagine i.a. the following:

  \citegroupp{\cite[21]{bazin:1997} \cite[4]{boyum:1985}}

  \citep{bazin:1997 (page 21); boyum:1985 (page 4)}

  \citep{bazin:1997/21;boyum:1985/4}

  \begin{citep} \cite[21]{bazin:1997} \cite[4]{boyum:1985} \end{citep}

You can surely think of many more possibilities.  Apart from the
grouping question, I would be in favour of a system which clearly
shows that it's a page that is being cited, since whether the word
"page" is output depends on the system -- Boyum (1985:4) normally
corresponds to [34, p.~4].
