compressie cyrillische fonts / documentgrootte

Hallo,

voor onze dagelijkse weersverwachtingen produceren we een 2-pagina
document (pdf) met daarin een aantal grafieken en een tabel.  Sinds
kort is hier ook een russische versie van gemaakt.  Helaas wordt deze
veel groter: bestandgrootte springt van 120kb naar 230kb.  Het
verschil zit hem in de fonts van het document, andere wijzigingen
(plots met russische labels) hebben nauwelijks verschil gemaakt.

Ik heb verschillende optimalisatie stappen geprobeerd (ghostscript,
pdfopt) maar deze maken het document alleen maar groter.

Is er iemand die weet hoe ik cyrillische fonts extern kan houden (kan
dat uberhaupt met pdf?) of een andere oplossing om een pdf verder te
verkleinen?

We gebruiken texlive 2013 en pdflatex + bijbehorende ghostscript
tools, in linux.  Indien echt nodig zou ik xelatex oid kunnen
proberen, maar als we bij "normaal" latex kunnen blijven zou dat veel
gedoe schelen.

We gebruiken russisch met UTF-8 encoding:
