When you produce a PDF presentation, every overlay in the resulting file contains all visible elements, so if you embed the big figure once in a page with overlays, it is embeded independently for each overlay. Because each overlay produces new pdf page the resulting file is big. The only method of decreasing the size of the file is to decrease the size of the image or to use some vector files instead of jpegs.
