e diaresis (or umlaut) in author field

Hi,

I am making a prosper presentation and am trying to work how to get 
latex \"{e} to show up in the author field? At the moment it seems to be 
completey ommited from the postscript (produced by dvips) as if I didn't 
type it in at all.  So my name Rapha\"{e}l Clifford shows up as Raphal 
Clifford. 

What is the right way of doing this?  I have attached a test file to 
show what the problem is.
