Re: figure numbering in overlays

You might try to redefine the counter so that before each overlay is shown 
figure 1 keeps being figure 1.

It should be something like:

\setcounter{figurecaption}{1} % I'm not sure about the syntax

To be more elegant you should save the counter somewhre safe and then use 
that number. In this way you don't screw everything up if you insert a 
figure on a previous slide.
