in this case you might want to take a look at the beamer package which
works together with pgf, a sort of pstricks replacement. The beamer package
allows you to work with pdflatex and to store your background image in a pdf 
object so that it needs memory only once. 
As a side remark: I used prosper for quite some time but I switched to beamer 
recently, one reason being that it does not rely on the seminar class which 
leads to problems with prosper now and then...
