Blank Screen Problem

I began using LateX last fall and have become a fan.  I use it mostly to
produce mathematical documents (test, handouts, etc.)  I don't understand
much of the background activity and thus am at a loss in solving the
problems I am encountering as I am now attempting to use Prosper.

I have used some online examples in an attempt to generate a functioning
output.  Regardless of what I use, I only see a blank screen.  "Zooming out"
reveals that all of the text is far to the right of the actual page.

I have searched the list archives and not found a solution for this.

I am running Windows XP, editing .tex files with WinEdt and have installed
prosper and update my FNDB with MikTeX Options.  I am attempting to compile
to a .dvi file and then compile a pdf using dvi2pdf.
