Yes, I definitely agree with you that encouraging people to contribute
equally is important for most mailing lists, but there aren't really any
good ways for people to contribute to [email protected], since most
responses fall into three categories:

1. LaTeX (or Plain) support requests.

   This list isn't really intended for these, so someone will usually
   redirect the poster to texhax or TeX.SE.

2. Package bug reports.

   Again, this list isn't really intended for these, so someone will
   usually redirect the poster to the package's GitHub page (or
   equivalent).

3. Distribution/packaging/infrastructure bugs.

   Usually these are resolved by Karl replying with something similar to
   "Thanks for the report, I've fixed that now".

All that's required for the first two categories is for a single person
to reply with a link to where the poster should repost their question;
new users helping out here would certainly be appreciated, but isn't
really necessary. Users can't really help out with the third category
unless their names are Karl or Norbert :).

We occasionally do get other types of on-topic posts here (often about
how to install or use TeX Live), and it would indeed be great if new
users contributed to these threads, but these these posts are fairly
rare, and usually get enough responses that I'm not personally too
worried about us running out of contributors here.
