STL file format for 3D printers

Is there a standalone conversion program from PDF to STL in (or planned 
for) TL? (I'm away from all my sources ATM). There seem to be plenty of 
online services.

The question has arisen in the context of using LaTeX to create relief 
printing surfaces for letterpress applications (eg hobby presses). 
Obviously there are questions of resolution compared with traditional 
photopolymer plates.
