Bear in mind that you may mean initexmf --admin --edit-config-file updmap (which pops up a nearly blank file by default as well). The file you edit with this command is additions to updmap.cfg, not the entire file itself. Assuming you've installed the mathtime MiKTeX package, there's no need to edit updmap - MiKTeX's built-in file (in miktex\config) includes the maps for all packages automatically. > Problem 3: !pdfTex error: Font mtsy at 408 not found. The mathtime package is a support package for a proprietary font - it doesn't actually include the fonts itself. I'm afraid I don't know where you actually have to go to buy the font.
