New to Miktex

Hi all
I am new to Miktex
I am trying to include a png image (or jpeg image) into a miktex document.
I included the following line
\includegraphics[width=40mm]{png1}
and also I have included the
\usepackage{graphicx} to the top of the file
but the output is showing just a blank box with the text "png1.png"
** png1.png is my png image name and it is in the current folder.
Will someone please teach me what is wrong.
I am sorry this may be a baby level question.
