In this case it is probably not relevant, but: doing something as
the admin is *not* always the best choice. Don't forget that an
admin can only set defaults or install default packages, a user can
overwrite such defaults with his own configuration and his own local
packages.

Try to update on the command line 

mpm --admin --update

Does this work?
