I urge more sympathy towards Pierre's difficulties.

The problem is that it takes time to create a normative
environment where students feel adequately free to ask what
they may fear are stupid questions. Some may be from
cultures where they hesitate to "bother" a professor with
*any* questions at all. But we need to get them up and
running as soon as possible.

So as an off-topic addition to the excellent technical
advice offered by Ulrike, I will mention that I've found
using a class listserv list for the students to be a great way
to make sure that student difficulties and any discovered
solutions are shared.

fwiw,
Alan Isaac
