Hi,
I have PDF created pdflatex from MikTeX 2.8. When I try to print it on
some better printer (I don't know the type), there are only images on
paper but no text.
I think, there is something wrong with fonts. I have used standard
font, nothing special:
% my complete preamble
\documentclass[12pt,a4paper]{article}
\usepackage[utf8x]{inputenc}
\usepackage{ucs}
\usepackage[czech]{babel}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage{graphicx}
\usepackage{wrapfig}
I compared PDF files from MikTeX on Windows 7 and from TeX Live on
Ubuntu 10.04. Source document was the same (in UTF-8).
1. pdfinfo
$ pdfinfo win-miktex-wt.pdf
Creator: TeX
Producer: MiKTeX pdfTeX-1.40.10
Pages: 118
Encrypted: no
Page size: 595.276 x 841.89 pts (A4)
File size: 7958741 bytes
Optimized: no
PDF version: 1.4
$ pdfinfo ubu10-texlive-wt.pdf
Creator: TeX
Producer: pdfTeX-1.40.10
... same
2. pdffonts
I don't understand it, but there are no font names in MikTeX's PDF.
$ pdffonts win7-miktex-wt.pdf
name type emb sub uni object ID
------------------------------------ ----------------- --- --- --- ---------
[none] Type 3 yes no no 5 0
[none] Type 3 yes no no 6 0
[none] Type 3 yes no no 519 0
$ pdffonts ubu10-texlive-wt.pdf
name type emb sub uni object ID
------------------------------------ ----------------- --- --- --- ---------
PFMCGF+SFBX1728 Type 1 yes yes no 5 0
VZFTWF+SFRM1200 Type 1 yes yes no 6 0
JIITTQ+SFBX1200 Type 1 yes yes no 519 0
3. Evince
Letters are the same. Maybe only almost the same, but I'm not sure.
Big difference is in Copy and Paste. Selecting text in MikTeX's PDF
completly changes the font and after pasting to text editor letters
are different (I mean, encoding is broken, I get different symbols).
4. Nautilus preview on Ubuntu
MikTeX's PDF thumbali looks very bad. TeX Live's is ok.
5. Acrobat Reader on Ubuntu
With zoom 300 % letters in MikTeX's PDF are rasterized or something like that.
I can't try print the PDF from TeX Live on the same printer. Generaly,
it is hard to test for me.
How can I be sure that my PDFs can be printed on all printers? Or it is a bug?
Thanks for help
Wenzeslaus
